Week 14 of Pregnancy
Baby's growth
The male and female reproductive systems actually develop from the same embryonic cells, the difference in their appearance being determined by the X (female) and Y (male) chromosomes at the time of conception. However, it takes about 14 weeks for the sex organs to be recognized on the ultrasound.

Changes in mother
As the nausea of pregnancy subsides, your appetite will increase and you may gain a lot of weight this month, so watch your diet. You will start to feel that you have more energy. Birth defects can be eliminated if women take prenatal vitamins before pregnancy. Even though you are already in your fourteenth week, don't forget to consult your doctor to learn more about vitamin supplements.
It's good you know...
If your doctor recommends a prenatal amniocentesis or a blood test called the triple screen for Down syndrome and neural tube defects, you can have it done between the 15th and 18th week. Becoming a grandparent is often considered synonymous with old age, and when you tell them the good news, they may feel they are still too young for it. Try to be supportive and affectionate.
